Did you know that the flute is one of the oldest instruments known to us humans? The oldest flute ever found is over 40,000 years old and made out of hollowed-out bone! For thousands of years, indigenous cultures all over the world have used flutes for ritual practices, celebration, and communication. Many folk music traditions around the world have their own unique flutes, like the Quena from the Andes and the Dizi from China.
Other instruments claim to be the “closest thing to the human voice”, but I believe that the flute is the closest thing to the

human soul…
This is why I think the flute is the coolest instrument ever!
If you’re looking for a teacher and studio that supports using music to speak from your soul, you’re in the right place
What lessons are like…
My teaching philosophy is simple: I believe that when you tap into your own unique frequency, you have the ability to learn on an intellectual and emotional level. This applies to students of all ages, experiences and ability levels. Lessons are collaborations, meeting the student where they’re at and working together to achieve their personalized goals. Lessons are also built around commitment to the fact that we must be embodied and grounded in order to produce beauty, so patience and compassion play a big role.
Here’s what we will typically cover:
Tone: how to get that full, resonant sound that fills a room
Rhythm: how music is structured through time
Technique: how to make your fingers move with ease
Sight-reading: how to play music without ever seeing it before
Music Theory & History: identifying musical patterns and larger contexts
Our flute is an extension of our voice, so I encourage all my students to get in touch with that voice at the beginning of each lesson through free improvisation with a drone or even their favorite pop song! Having great fundamentals is amazing, but hearing someone’s soul come through when they play is just magical.
The Extras…
In addition to regular lesson activities, I’m proud to be able to offer some extras for my students, including…
¡Se habla español!
Opportunities to perform for guest artists and receive feedback from diverse perspectives
Public performance opportunities, to build stage confidence!
Duet readings at the end of every lesson, to help with critical sight-reading skills
Exercises to help them care for their mind and bodies as I develop my own personal practices in mindfulness and body awareness
Expert guidance when it’s time to upgrade to a new instrument! The wand truly chooses the wizard. I have several years of experience in the flute sales business from my time working with Flute Authority, so you can rest assured I can help guide you towards the best fit!
